Being a young software guy.....

Last weekend I went to a party. Some dude came up to me and asked the dreaded question, "So what do you do?" . I said software. He made a face like, eeewwwwwww.

Thats an indication of how that field is perceived.
In way it is true, I have to admit.
Don't get me wrong. I REALLY like what I do.
I have been pretty fortunate so for. My job has taken me all over the world, and I do very well for someone my age.

BUT

I have been laid off once. That was sucky.
I probably will be again some day.
That will be suckier.

Right now the job prospects right now are nothing short of dismal. Everyone I know who does the same thing feels, well, pretty much trapped.

Is there any good news to this story?

Of course. I save-save-save my money.
I am single with no real debt.
I am good at lots of different things.
I live in an awesome town.
And i can live off of way less than I make.

ok. enough pep talk.

tomorrow i get a haircut

my shit is shaggy.

i'm pooped

I woke up early and met some friends. We went hiking on the greenbelt. After an hour or so, we stopped in a little waterfall area and went swimming.

What a blast. I love living in Austin. Now I am SOOOOO tired. Went and saw open water last night with some other friends. It was OK, had an indy feel to it.

This is what i want to see though:

The quarter life crisis club

Tonight was an absolutely wonderful night. I found a new group in Austin called the quarter life crisis club. Never before have I found a group that I blend into so well.

First off, the club is held at one of the coolest places I have ever been, the spider house cafe. The place is beyond words, very Austin, and very cool. The group is composed of a group of young professionals, all well educated, all who hate their jobs and the person it makes has made them become. It was stellar. It was great to be around people like me, to listen to their stories of how they slack at work, no longer shoot for the stars, and just think about going home and how they can avoid work. All were young singles, with no interests in things like marriage or children. All are people who once were funny and witty, but have been beaten down by tedious routines to be shells of the former selfs.

One night of venting, blatantly using the word fuck, and just laughing, has made me feel happier than I have been for a long, long time.

More detail on the eyes and lips, started on the necklace, and started on the hair. I love doing eyes and lips the best. They really tell the story of a person more than any other feature. Posted by Hello

The world around us

You know,

Every day it seems like a new terror alert comes out. The financial buildings in NY are going to be attacked.

OOPS, now they aren't. The information is four years old. Our bad.

I wonder if this went on for 3 years after pearl harbor was bombed. I somehow doubt it.

I am 26 years old. I do not fear terrorist attacks. I figure the likelyhood of that happening to me is about 0. What do I fear? I fear i will go to work, to find out my job has been outsourced (again). I fear having to job hunt in a bad economy. I fear having gone to school for 5 years and going to work at a really shitty job (but still owing $$ student loans).

Thats just me. I wonder what other people fear?

I read that toys r us is thinking of getting out the toy business. Um... Well...
That seems kind of dumb to me. Basically you have a toy company saying, "We suck at selling toys, so we are going to sell clothes." Why would anyone invest in a company like that? If they are a company based on selling toys and fail, why would i have faith they can sell anything else successfuly?

Corporate America is kind of dumb.

Today Today

I am still working on the painting currently entitled Old Lady and child. I am putting some lines on the fence, and it is kind of a bitch. I tape areas, paint, then let it dry for 2 days before i can do it again. Its slow going.

I found out today at work I have to go back to Germany twice in september. I have tickets for a pixies concert in mid september, (seeing the pixies play is on my life to do list), of course, manager man wants me to skip it. HAHAHAHAA i say. Not a chance, sucker. So now I will be flying back to texas to see the show, then getting back on a plane (20 hour travel day) to go back to work.

You know what?
It's worth it.
Some things you just have to stand your ground on.

Monday morning. Again.

The alarm on my cell phone went off at the oh so early hour of 6:15. I awoke from my NyQuil induced slumber to realize I had to go to work. What a jip.

The weekend was quite calm. Since we have white trash tendencies, our house was a wreck. Let me explain. We have this huge dining room area (see the pics from the earlier post). Now, since white trash boys don't like investing in things like tables and chairs, my brother chose to use the dining room as a workshop to build a speaker box. 3 days later, it was filled with lumber, sawdust, tools, and blood. Oh yeah, he cut his pretty bad. Then he passed out and bled on the floor. What a puss.

Anyways,
The house is now immaculate for at least a day. Much like the terror alert scale our dictator uses, I will make one for my house. We are currently at orange alert, which means a full scale mess is a possibility.

I saw an indy film this weekend called the station agent. Probably the best movie I have seen this year. Its a must see.

PS

I get to go see the Pixies in September. Top that, chief.
